Difference between productive and unproductive introspection

Posted by

Often, we go on and on thinking about the past, without having any clear direction or ideas as to how to proceed. Hence, I chalked out the difference between the kind of introspection one is dwelling in.

Productive introspection Unproductive introspection
Leads to realizations and answers Leads to no clear answers
Leads to personal growth and improvement in behaviour Leads to low self esteem, self sabotage and self blame
Empowers the individual Disempowers the individual
The individual starts to love and accept himself/herself The individual starts to hate and neglect himself/herself
Learning from mistakes and focussing on solutions Picking out too many mistakes
More focus on present and future, rather than past More focus on the past.
